Workshops
The most successful professionals invest in their development. This ensures that they gain the nuggets of information that are not available by other means. This is particularly true for those wanting to expand their practice in the Caribbean. Using its experience of successfully hosting procurement workshops and research SIS has developed a four day workshop which will concentrate on:
1. Working effectively with IFIs and Government Ministries in the Caribbean
2. WinBid Techniques
3. Project Management
4. Team Building
It requires annually attending such workshops to reduce the time taken and risk of bidding for contracts. For example knowledge of project management techniques and software can reduce the time taken to prepare a bid by 70%. Taking the time to learn effective team building techniques can mean minimal loss of work time due to conflicts in work styles and perspectives when implementing a contract. All this makes the time and money invested minimal. Failing to do this can be compared to you putting a noose round your neck, continually pulling it tighter and then wondering why you are choking.
Adult learning and highly participatory techniques will be used with each workshop having a maximum of 20 participants. To facilitate busy schedules the workshops will be held several times in 2004.
The presenters will include those with deep practical experience of working in the Caribbean e.g. policy decision makers, senior administrators in the IFIs and Government, sector specialists and procurement personnel, professionals who have successfully implemented >$1M(US) projects. The highly participatory nature of the workshops will allow participants to gain critical insights and clarify points of special concern to them.
